CAP BRETON : September 2 - 6
Cape Breton Island, known by its ancestral Mi'kmaq name Unama'ki ("land of the fog"), and also known during the French period as Île Royale, is a renowned international destination celebrated for its spectacular natural beauty, rich multicultural heritage, and warm hospitality. Consistently ranked as a top island in North America, it offers a unique blend of coastal wilderness and vibrant cultural experiences.
On the morning of September 2, you will board a motorcoach from the Airport Holiday Inn for a 4 days/4 nights visit of the Island.
· Discover the Scottish culture of Cape Breton Island: you will have the opportunity to visit at St. Ann’s Gaelic College and learn about the rich Scottish heritage and traditions that shape this vibrant community.
· Explore the charming town of Baddeck: Take a leisurely stroll through Baddeck, where you can shop and enjoy the scenic beauty of the famous Bras d’Or Lakes and visit the Graham Bell National Historic Site.
· Stay in the Acadian village of Chéticamp for a memorable 2-night experience: Enjoy oceanfront accommodations in cottages or a hotel while exploring the area. Highlights include the renowned Saint-Pierre church, the Trois Pignons Museum, rug hooking exhibit and genealogy centre. Cap off your stay with a traditional Acadian supper and an exciting kitchen party at the Centre de la Mi-carême.
· Experience the Cabot Trail: Embark on a scenic 300-km journey along the Cabot Trail, where you'll encounter hairpin bends, steep cliffs, and breathtaking views of both mountains and the ocean.
· Stay in Sydney: Spend two nights in Sydney, the largest city on the island, enjoy the boardwalk and take a selfie of yourself with the biggest fiddle in the World!
· Explore the Fortress of Louisbourg: Dedicate an entire day to visiting the amazing Fortress Louisbourg National Historic Site, where history comes alive through immersive experiences, presentations and a traditional soldier’s meal.
· Visit Isle Madame: On your way back to the Halifax Airport Holiday Inn on September 6, make a stop at Isle Madame and explore its charming Acadian Villages.

Saint-Pierre and Miquelon offers a unique blend of French culture and North American coastal wilderness, situated just 25 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. This small archipelago is the only remaining French territory in North America, providing a truly "disorienting" and charming European experience without crossing the Atlantic. The islands have a small, close-knit population of roughly 5400 residents in the capital town of Saint-Pierre and 600 on the island of Miquelon. Visitors are immediately struck by the French ambiance, from the language and the Euro currency to the excellent gastronomy, complete with French wines, cheeses, and pastries. The natural landscape provides opportunities for wildlife viewing, including seals, whales, and birds, and for those interested in history, there are museums detailing the islands' past, including its Prohibition-era smuggling history.
On the morning of September 7, you will fly from the Halifax Aiprort to Saint-Pierre & Miquelon with Air Saint-Pierre.
This part of the tour is organized in collaboration with HDE Voyages.
• Upon arrival on the island of Saint-Pierre, you will check in at the recently renovated Hotel Robert for a delightful 4-night stay. Following this, you will embark on an orientation walking tour, culminating in a welcoming supper and conference with the esteemed author Françoise Enguehard.
• Discover the rich history of the archipelago: Join our hostess, Patricia Detcheverry, at the fascinating Musée Héritage in Saint-Pierre to learn about the first settlers, education, religion, fishing and dory building, the prohibition era, and much more. In the afternoon, enjoy a bus tour to explore the rest of the island. Optional outing in a real dory in the Saint-Pierre Harbour (70 $)
• Step back in time with a 15-minute boat crossing to the picturesque Île-aux-Marins: Enjoy a delightful walking tour from one end of the island to the other, immersing yourself in its rich history. Afterward, you'll have free time for shopping or further exploration of Saint-Pierre for the rest of the day.
• Embark on a full-day adventure to the Acadian Islands of Miquelon and Langlade: Enjoy a scenic 60-minute ferry ride to these beautiful islands. Your day will include guided walking and bus tours, as well as historical presentations. Highlights of the trip include the Acadian Monument, a charming church, a rich local museum, and a historic cemetery, all set against the backdrop of stunning scenic sights.
• After four days of Indulging in French gastronomy with wine, cheese, baguette, foie gras, chocolates, pastries, and more, you will fly back from Saint-Pierre to Halifax on the morning of September 11.

After landing at the Halifax Airport around 10 AM on September 11, we will board another coach which will bring us to Prince Edward Island (PEI) on the way to the Madalen Islands (Îles-de-la-Madeleine). PEI was known as Île Saint-Jean in Old Acadie. It is a charming, small province known for its stunning red sand beaches, rolling green fields, rich history as the "Birthplace of Confederation," and the literary legacy of Anne of Green Gables. It's an ideal destination for those seeking a relaxed pace, warm hospitality, and world-class seafood. Your journey begins by crossing the Confederation Bridge, which spans 12.9 km (8 miles). Upon arrival in Charlottetown, settle in for a one-night stay. Take the evening to explore the charming capital at your own pace.
On September 12, drive from Charlottetown to the east end to the Souris Ferry Terminal, where you will set sail for the Magdalen Islands, affectionately known as “the Maggies.” You will arrive in the late afternoon and check in at the Château Madelinot for a three-night stay. The Maggies are a picturesque archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, with a permanent population of around 12,941 permanent residents as of 2022. The inhabitants, known as Madelinots, are mainly of Acadian descent, with a small but significant English-speaking population of Scottish origin. During your visit, you will experience:
· Stunning Scenery: The islands are connected by narrow sand dunes and feature colorful houses, numerous lighthouses, and breathtaking panoramic views from small hills called "buttes." The landscape, sculpted by wind and sea, is constantly changing due to erosion.
· Rich Culture & Heritage: Visitors can explore the historic site of La Grave, a former fishing village now home to boutiques, art galleries, and cafes. The local population, known as Madelinots, are renowned for their warm hospitality and distinctive accents.
· Gourmet Flavors: The islands boast a rich culinary scene, particularly known for fresh seafood like lobster and snow crab, local cheeses such as Pied-de-Vent, craft beers from the À l'Abri de la Tempête microbrewery, and traditional smoked herring.
· Explore the villages of Cap-aux-Meules (the "capital"), Havre-Aubert, Fatima, Havre-aux-Maisons, Grande-Entrée, and Entry Island. Discover charming churches, quaint small museums, unique craft shops, and local products across the islands.
On September 15, you will take the Ferry back to PEI and board a coach to the Halifax Airport Holiday Inn where you will spend your last night. You fly out anytime on September 16.
